Bio Barry Hudson
Barry Hudson is Project Director Systems Renewal at the University of Pretoria (UP). UP has approximately 60,000 students and some 5,000 staff. The university’s ‘Systems Renewal’ strategy started the phased replacement of the university’s legacy Financial, HR, and Student systems with purchased ERP applications in 2008. The project also envisaged the installation of a significant portfolio of middleware and related technology. After an extensive evaluation that focused primarily on UP’s core student-related business processes, the university opted to pursue the PeopleSoft “Campus Solutions” student and academic management suite of applications from. Furthermore, to complement this suite, UP elected to also procure and implement the PeopleSoft Financial/Supply Chain, PeopleSoft Human Capital Management, PeopleSoft Customer Relationship Management and PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management suites from Oracle as well as the SOA, Access & Identity management, WebCentre (portal and collaboration tools), Enterprise Content Management (document management, imaging, records management), and Business Intelligence suites also from Oracle. The system renewal is due to be completed in 2012.
Before joining UP in 2006, Barry worked in various roles managing deployment, development and replacement projects for South Africa’s Council for Scientific and Industrial Research organisation (CSIR) for 16 years. This included the project that realised the complete replacement of these earlier systems with a suite of PeopleSoft HCM, Financials/Supply Chain Management and CRM modules. He also served for a number of years as head of CSIR’s internal IT Department.
